Fine Art Research

Andrew Shield spent eight years dealing in fine art including numerous historic works from the 16th and 17th century. Several ‘sleepers’ were unearthed and verified by specialists including Sotheby’s. If you would like to find out more about your painting, we can help.

WHAT WE DO

Learn more about the artist, school and sitter.

Fine Art Valuations

When you buy at auction, hopefully you do so at a favourable rate. Is your painting worth more on the open market? What would be a sensible insurance valuation? We can tell you.

Artist Research

Through Brave Fine Art, we’ve produced an artist directory of around 1,000 artists. If you would like us to produce a biography for the painter behind your artwork, please let us know.

Sitter Research

If you’ve acquired a portrait, we may be able to identify the sitter, or at the very least, a country or origin. If your painting bears a coat of arms, we’re usually able to trace the family.

THE FOUNDERS

Andrew & Holly

Committed to providing a professional industry-leading service.

The concept for Proartus stemmed from the combined efforts of Andrew Shield, a fine art dealer with eight years of experience handling over 2,000 works, and Holly Shield, a trained fine art conservator.

In today’s market, when paintings are shipped overseas extensively, all too often problems occur. Shippers very rarely have a background in fine art and, as such, fail to take proper precautions when packing. For instance, most antique paintings are sent without properly securing them into their frames, which leads to the canvas or panel, vibrating within the frame. This could cause scratches, from old nails, or worse, a tear in a canvas.

With a passion for antique fine art, and conservation more broadly, we’ve created a fine art shipping company that draws upon our combined experiences and removes the risk of shipping overseas.
