It will arrive safely and in gallery condition.

Clean & Revarnish

Nearly all paintings purchased from auction require some kind of basic clean and revarnish. It’s astonishing how a piece can be transformed. Our conservators are trained in removing years of accumulated environmental grime, such as tobacco and soot before revarnishing.

Repairing Holes & Torn Canvases

If your painting has holes or is torn, we can address this in a number of ways. In rare cases, a painting may need to be relined where by a newer canvas is attached to the existing one. But most of the time, less intrusive treatments are appropriate.

Retouching

Our retouchers are skilled in apply a minimal amount of overpaint to achieve the desired results and ethics are at the heart of our decision-making. It’s vital that as much of the artist’s original work is visible and never obscured.

THE FOUNDERS

Andrew & Holly

Committed to providing a professional industry-leading service.

The concept for Proartus stemmed from the combined efforts of Andrew Shield, a fine art dealer with eight years of experience handling over 2,000 works, and Holly Shield, a trained fine art conservator.

In today’s market, when paintings are shipped overseas extensively, all too often problems occur. Shippers very rarely have a background in fine art and, as such, fail to take proper precautions when packing. For instance, most antique paintings are sent without properly securing them into their frames, which leads to the canvas or panel, vibrating within the frame. This could cause scratches, from old nails, or worse, a tear in a canvas.

With a passion for antique fine art, and conservation more broadly, we’ve created a fine art shipping company that draws upon our combined experiences and removes the risk when shipping overseas.
